Vol 1 #2 - Reincarnation

Crow...are you "cawing" so I may know the secrets of balance within my soul? Or are you sending your
"caw" just to remind me of universal laws?

When we first laid out the themes for the first six issues of ARIADNE'S WEB™ we decided that the theme for this second issue would be Parenting - The Divine Paradox. But as we began to pull ideas together it quickly became apparent that what was emerging had more to do with the role of parents in the process of reincarnation, and the purpose of reincarnation itself. Therefore, following the threads of what seemed to be unfolding, the theme of the current issue was changed to: Parents, Reincarnation, and The Lost Word.

The issue begins with the feature article by Zacchariah Stone who asks the question: "Who Were You - Who Will You Be?" According to the author, this question itself grew out of the more precise question: "Who Were You Before You Were Conceived By Your Mother?" and obliges us to ponder not only who were we but, more importantly, the crucial question, who will we be, implying of course that we also need to address the question of our spiritual evolution in the present incarnation. The author points out that there are actually two conceptions - a psycho-spiritual conception which impacts the soul of the incarnating personality, and a physical conception which determines the unfoldment of the physical body in which the personality will live out its incarnation. He goes on to show that the process of birth is itself the first Rite of Passage which sets the personality up for experiencing life in a certain way. After birth the personality undergoes a progressive series of restrictions and alienations from the source, its spiritual journey being defined as finding its way back to wholeness. The Lost Word is presented as a key to this individual quest for wholeness.

Then there is the provocative article entitled An Inquiry Into the Process of Birth and Incarnation written by Dr. Wilfred-René Chetteoui who, based upon scientific experimentation, asks us to consider consciousness from a quantum mechanical view point and as an attribute of a bio-energetic field. Changes in this bio-energetic field are said to occur some three months prior to the physical conception of the child and may be considered to be the spiritual event which initiates incarnation of the personality.

Dr. H. Diehl Kerr, in his article on Consciousness and the Breath, addresses the life force from the viewpoint of universal principles and shows, among other things, how the environment in which a particular race of humans developed imposed certain physical requirements geared to survival. Thus skin color and, insofar as the breath is concerned, the shape and size of the nose have definite survival value. He also draws attention to the phenomenon of nostril dominance and its relevance to right-brain and left-brain functions. In addition, breathing patterns which, for most of us have been established since birth, are linked to stress and may reflect our unconscious attitudes toward the stresses and strains of physical existence.

The article entitled Reincarnation - The Past and Present Future begins by addressing the doctrine of reincarnation from the point of view of personal responsibility. The author addresses questions such as: What Reincarnates; Can Reincarnation be Proved; How do we Recollect Past Lives; Where are Past Lives Stored; Is Reincarnation Universal? In dealing with this latter question the fascinating suggestion is made that matter itself reincarnates. Additional questions are: Does life evolve; How does Consciousness Evolve; Do Forgotten Past-life Experiences affect our Lives Today? The article ends with a suggestion as to how we might go about improving our lives today so that we may create better conditions for our next incarnation.

This issue's feature Esoteric Streams - Schools of Thought deals with Masonic Rites and Rituals. Written by a member of the Supreme Council of the Masonic Grand Lodge of France, it addresses the issue of the Rites and Rituals associated with the different Observances, and challenges each Mason to become acquainted with the practices of those Observances other than the one to which he belongs. The author's remarks with regard to the origin and purpose of ritual give us much to ponder regardless of our particular spiritual orientation or allegiances.

This Place Made Sacred is the sub-theme for this issue's Entering The Sanctuary and picks up the skeins of thought woven in Reincarnation - The Past And Present Future by proposing an exercise designed to assist in seeking and finding the positive element in any and all experience.
