Vol 2 #3 - Total Health and Well-being

Crow...are you "cawing" so I may know the secrets of balance within my soul? Or are you sending your "caw"
just to remind me of universal laws? (1)

To say that the advent of reductionist, physically oriented science has had a profound effect upon the Health and Well-being of citizens of Western and other cultures, is a gross understatement. However, as my little old Grandmother used to say: Too far East is West!

Today we are witnessing a not-unexpected backlash to the mechanistic reductionistic approach to the human body, so much so that many seem headed in the same direction of excessive indulgence as those whom they are so fond of criticizing. We, at ARIADNE'S WEB ™ firmly believe that the reductionist and holistic approaches are complementary and, as such, should be properly integrated or harmonized. Nevertheless, because for the vast majority of Westerners today, there is little or no conception of what healing systems were like prior to the popular acceptance of the Newtonian mechanistic view of the Universe, nor prior to the conceptual separation of, and irreconcilable divorce between Mind and Body as presented by René Descartes, we have decided to focus primarily on the holistic approach. Accordingly, in African Medical Sociology, Dr. Logmo Bienvenu presents his view of the current state of affairs in the Black African Medical Tradition in relationship to our Western approach, while in Holistic Medicine, Claire Carassou-Maillan and Gérard Breuil present a overview of the challenges faced by the Western approach and how these could be met through the application of the Holistic paradigm. Harkening back to times past, when Body and Mind enjoyed a strained but endurable marriage, Mark Stavish presents Part II of Plant Alchemy.

In harmony with the Black African view, is The Egyptian Ka in which Genevieve and Babacar Khane allude to the Seven Divine Principles as the basis of Egyptian and Indian yogic systems. In this regard, our lead article entitled: Seven Divine Principles of Total Health and Well-being, these seven principles are discussed primarily in psychological terms, while in our METAPHYSIOLOGY® feature, Spiritual Dimensions of Health and  Healing, the role of Forgiveness, as one of the Divine Virtues, is discussed in relation to the healing process. For its part, our new feature, A Medieval Primer, is inaugurated by David W. Lincoln, Gretchen Thometz, and Betty Dittman who present The Hospice, an article in which they present the merits and practical application of hospice care with regard to emotional and spiritual health.

In MUSTIKUMA the concept of prayer is presented as a means of awakening to the Divine within us all while in DIDYANO we scratch the surface of the Traditional African approach to healing. Finally, in Entering The Sanctuary, Mark H. Moulton, Ph.D. presents Part II of his Himalayan Journey, while in Esoteric Streams  we are pleased to present the Philosophical Research Society through its founder, Manly P. Hall, who has made a significant contribution to the perpetuation and dissemination of the Teachings of the Western Esoteric Traditions.

Your thoughts and opinions are important to us so please do not hesitate to let us know what you think of how we are doing.

Yours - OHW.
