VolUME 6, NUMBER 2 - vehicles of consciousness

Crow...are you "cawing" so I may know the secrets of balance within my soul!  Or are you sending your "caw" just to remind me of universal laws? (1)

Contemporary scientific wisdom would have us believe that human consciousness is a produce of the human brain. However, our lead article, Vehicles of Consciousness directly questions this bias and suggests that generally speaking we have allowed the limitations of our physical senses to seduce us into believing that "consciousness" can only manifest in certain specific ways discernable through these gateways of awareness. Indeed, our lead articles goes on to suggest that if we were to define consciousness as responsiveness to the environment then we would soon come to understand that in fact everything that exists IS conscious, simply because everything that exists does indeed respond to its environment. In harmony with this conception, the articles on Nothingness - The Nest of Being by James R. Willems makes the bold assertion that the "Void" of Western Metaphysics, which corresponds to the "No-Thing" of Eastern Metaphysics, is in fact "consciousness" and that everything that exists is a product of this "consciousness".

With this in mind, it becomes a matter of "common sense" to realize that anything we do as human beings is itself a product of "consciousness" and, as such is, therefore, a vehicle of consciousness.  In this regards, Sacred Spaces by Pamela J. Barnes reminds us not only of the fact that symbolism is itself a vehicle of consciousness but also that when such symbolism is allied to the art of gardening, the result can be a profoundly healing experience.  And speaking of healing experiences, who can doubt the healing effects of music, as an expression of universal harmony, or of bringing one's consciousness into harmony with the one's highest Idealism?  This is the message conveyed by Music - The Divine Voice, which is the title of this issue's TEMPLAR PERSPECTIVE by Stephen Dafoe, as well as by our METAPHYSIOLOGY® feature entitled A Case for Miracles.

Extending our treatment of Vehicles of Consciousness, A MASONIC PERSPECTIVE by Dr. Norman Pearson, deals with Awareness and Truth, while ESOTERIC STREAMS features an article by John Eberly entitled Jacob Boehme and The Day-Spring of Consciousness.  For its part, A MEDIEVAL PRIMER presents Part 2 of A Crusade Against Violence while A MARTINIST PERSPECTIVE, in continuing in its treatment of Martinism as a Spiritual Discipline, gives us The Place of Martinism in History and The Tradition.

It should come as no surprise to learn that Knowledge and Interpretation are both also Vehicles of Consciousness.  Such is precisely the subject of this issue's ENTERING THE SANCTUARY, which is entitled Traveling the Four Worlds of Interpretation, by Solosito le Chevalier, followed by DIDYANO entitled This is Worth Passing On and MUSTIKUMA, which bears the title Imprints in the Sand.

Finally, we return to the subject of Tolerance, for it is by means of true tolerance that one becomes increasingly aware of the various Vehicles of Consciousness which constitute the totality of one's Being.  Therefore, we conclude this issue with an excerpt entitled Tolerance:  The Ultimate Sign of Strength, which is taken from a soon-to-be published work on Spiritual Chivalry by our Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Onslow H. Wilson.  And once again, we would like to encourage those of you who may be interested in discovering areas of intolerance within your own consciousness to send for a copy of our Tolerance Questionnaire.  Your results will be personal and private, known only to yourself unless you choose to reveal them to someone else of your choosing.  Simply send a self-addressed stamped envelope to:  Ariadne's Web - Tolerance, 4287-A, Beltline Road, #330, Addison, TX 75001.
