New & Established Writers

Event a literary magazine in its 33rd year of publication which focuses on fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, notes on writing and reviews. Our contributors include both established and unknown writers. We deliberately seek the writer who is writing well but possibly not yet well-known, and look for writing that inspires access to the reader's imagination. We have no particular theory to grind, so we aim for diversity, excellence in expression and intensity of experience.

        Almost all manuscripts are unsolicited, and only the reviews are regularly sought. Many of our reviewers are writers themselves, or readers with a particular interest in the books under review.

        Our intention is to present the writing within lively, provocative covers which attract attention to the possibilities within. We wish to present a visual splash, different with each issue.

        Through our presentation and design, and through our open policy that fosters awareness of new and established writers, Event has developed as a journal that participates eagerly in the literary life of the times.
